"Thanks," Jeanette said as she shakily resumed her feet, face slightly pale and still aching, but certainly up to join the fight again to stave off the Death Eaters. She wondered vaguely why there were not Aurors coming on the scene to help out the endangered Hogwarts students- things seemed about even on both sides in damages, but the point was to eradicate the sick individuals who found it fun to attack innocent students. Taking up her wand and shifting slightly so that she was nigh on back to back with the Gryffindor, the seventh year student began to fire off a new round of Stunners. She did not watch the fifth year with whom she had joined forces, a girl who was a good friend of Lachlan's but who Jeanie somehow had never progressed beyond occasional acquaintance with as well as the standard interactions of two Quidditch players from opposing teams- Jeanette as a Keeper and Amelia as a Beater. She hoped that as a pair working together they might have some effect.

However.. things were not looking to good, especially when one of the Death Eaters cast some kind of spell toeard Lily. Jeanie did not see whether it hit, except the sudden panicked scream of Jeanie, help me!" Whipping her head around, the adolescent saw that the Gryffindor had apparently lost control of her own legs, and she was dancing around in a quick, crazy sort of way that was not in the least bit of their owner Amelia's own accord.

Jeanie did not know quite what the hex was that had been tossed the way of the fellow student. However, she could think of a potential solution for the problem at hand. After firing a Stunner at one of the Death Eaters who seemed to be aiming dangerously in that direction and dodging a jet of orange light, she turned her wand toward Amelia and shouted "Finite Incantatem!" As there was no time to waste, she did not immediately watch to make sure the spell had cured Amelia of this odd dancing pattern as hoped. To have a fighting chance, everybody on her side needed to be kept in commission if at all possible. "Nice one, Millie," she added fast as she realized that the dancing girl had managed to fell a Death Eater even amidst the violent jerking of her legs, before raising her wand to take another aim at a hooded, masked figure. Her blood felt icy as she realized more black, hooded, masked figures were closing in.

Amycus' wand still fixed upon Lachlan, his eyes wandered over to Kasey behind the bar. So, Amycus had no idea which side he was on, but he was a Slytherin - right? Ex-Slytherin, given, but maybe Amycus was just prejudiced against these kinds of things and expected Kasey to fight on the Death Eater's side. His gaze watched Kasey walk out the bar with no sudden glance towards him. Shrugging, without caring much, he looked back at the Parker kid who was still strung up near the ceiling. He lowered Lachie down to a chair by the table closest to him. "Ferula!" he said, watching ropes emerge from his wand and tie Lachlan to the chair. Smirking, he walked back out to the fight outside, hoping to see something worth seeing.

It was chaos outside. Spells were flying everywhere - the fire was still raging on the bush underneath the window of the Hogs Head. Perfect; it created such a nice atmosphere. He watched Dolohov as he confunded several students with tongue tying curses, almost laughing at them all. They didn't stand a chance against the team of hooded Death Eaters, making their way over to the small group of kids. Kicking up his stride, Amycus wandered back over to Dolohov. "Nice," he commented, the glee in his voice genuine. He reached up his robe sleeve and drew out his wand, prepared to help out with any other kind of stuff needed. "I've got one of them tied up to a chair in the Hogs Head; need me to take any more?" Amycus breathed, watching the people in front of him stumble with their words. He was trying to make himself sound impressive, so that the other Death Eaters would know that Amycus was a force to be reckoned with - but once again, he just sounded stuck up. "What about that one," he said, pointing to the Hufflepuff girl (Jeanie). "she looks pretty dead. I could take her." His eyes flashed evilly at the thought of it, from underneath his mask.

There was a cool collectedness that had settled over Kasey the moment he'd stepped out of the Hog's Head. The fact that there were so many people running about in terror helped to bring about an icy calm that kept him level headed and able to think. His mind was set on the task at hand and that was it. He still wasn't sure what he could do to help, who he would help, or even which side he would help. Perhaps simply the disadvantaged, the ones who were destined to die at a Death Eater's hand, or vice versa. He would help whomever needed helping, just so he could screw with other's minds, just like he was so good at doing. It was turning out to be quite a day.

Moving along the street, Kasey watched the people fighting, not daring to interfere in any for the moment. When he happened upon a group fighting Antonin-if they could be called a group-Kasey rolled his eyes. He watched one of the girls dive at the Death Eater, and then a moment later the other's legs began to dance wildly. When it became apparent that the friend did not know the counter curse, Kasey pointed his wand at her from his distance and mumbled the spell that would free the girl should it hit. Without waiting to see if he was on or not, Kasey moved on, looking around him for any that may attack him or that he could save. The eerie calmness that had begun when he'd walked out of work was still making its way through him, strong as ever.

Kasey's eyes wandered over the crowd, and he saw the same figure-or so he thought-hanging near the Death Eater who had been attacked. Relatively safe and hidden in the shadows, Kasey sat back to watch and wait, wand raised, ready for a fight or to curse the next person who walked by. Eyes flitting to the side, Kasey saw a man downing a Death Eater, and Kasey flicked his wand there, helping the Death Eater out and crippling the man every so slightly. He was very much equal opportunity.

Never was and never will be
Have you no shame? Don't you see me?
You know you've got everybody fooled

Antonin had been far to into his work at the moment, hexing and cursing any innocent and fighting bystander that he could catch with his spells to take notice with someone else joined him. Antonin turned around watching Amycus while using his wand to cast protective spells to keep any attackers from launching anything his way, while he was occupied talking with the young Death Eater. It was more of an act of common sense than anything else, it wasn’t like he expected this little kids to through anything big their way. Other than those foolish little spells that Albus Dumbledore threw their way they would never have the guts to use some true dark magic in their enemies. Something that to their bad luck the Death Eaters didn’t pay much attention, they were more than willing to use the Unforgivable on others, no matter how young and innocent they were or acted to be.

What was worrying him was that by now he was sure the Ministry had probably been informed about this. It wouldn’t be long before the Aurors and other Ministry Officials began arriving. Their time was almost coming to close, they needed to begin getting more serious about their work. Time for play was almost over, the true idea of their mission ready to begin. “excellent, you have been proving yourself worthy of been one of us, the Dark Lord I’m sure will be very pleased with your work. You are free to take her if you wish, she is an unworthy mudblood and I’m sure we can teach her a few lessons about trying to enter our world with their unworthiness. Plus I just used the Crucio on her, I bet another one and she’ll be pretty easy to drag off. Unless you are hoping to use another spell, feel free to go wild.”

Antonin’s eyes were no longer looking at Jeanette they had fallen on a very familiar blond head. He had met the girl not that long in St. Mungo’s while his mother was staying there, their talk had been quite interesting and he had learned a few very interesting things about her. He pressed his wand round his finger, looking over at idea about what to do. Using the Cruciato curse again didn’t sound that fun again. He wanted to save that maybe for letter, killing her would probably end things far to quickly and he had hopes of using her for information and others thing. He doubted that with the mask and a few modifications to his voice she would never recognize him, maybe after all this was over he could act like a shoulder to cry on. It was an interesting thought, it would get her to trust him possibly even more.

Smirking behind his mask Antonin pointed his wand directly at Beth’s head. Things were just about to get interesting, there was something that he liked and that was to make people hurt the ones they loved. It tended to bring a sense of power to him, plus it was quite fun to watch their reactions once they became aware of what they had done. He knew this would probably affect the Ravenclaw girl, he would have probably felt more guilty, but years as a Death Eater had erased most of those feelings from his heart by now. “Imperio, time to do the binding of the Dark Lord, Beth dear.” Now what would be the first thing he could get her to do. Maybe attack her little friends or maybe send her to Hogwarts. So many things to do, so very little time.

OOC: i wasn't sure about when you wanted tony to imperio her, but if you want to wait i can change it.

Amycus's heart started to swell up at Antonin's words. Did he really mean that the Dark Lord would be proud of him? For the first time ever, Amycus was actually proud of himself. If he was proving his worth as a Death Eater, it was more than he'd ever done with his life before hand. The spells that Antonin knew and used were greater than Amycus had even heard about; he sure was a powerful Death Eater. The muggle-borns on the receiving ends of Antonin's spells were sure in for it though, that was for sure. Amycus watched as a protective shield went up over him and his ally. Other stupid kids attempted to throw spells at the both of them, but they were deflected with ease by the shield.

His gaze fell upon the girl next to them (Jeanie), who looked so drained of power it was almost amusing. His eyes flashed back to Antonin as he gave Amycus the all go for taking her hostage, too. Amycus bowed his head at Antonin, who was clearly superior to his own being. "Of course. Mobiliarbus!" and with that, Amycus flicked his wand, sending the girl into mid air, not actually wanting to touch her and her mudblood filthiness. He walked swiftly towards the Hogs Head, Jeanie trailing behind him. He dodged a few spells aimed at him in the meanwhile, before shutting the door to the Hogs Head swiftly, hearing a spell explode on the rickety old door.

Amycus tied Jeanie up to a chair against the back of Parker's with another Ferula!, the both of them pretty much unconscious. Other unknown Death Eaters brought back people at random intervals, as Amycus decided to stay behind from now on and 'look after' the hostages. Any hostage who looked mildly awake, or any who tried to escape, was sent a good conjunctivitis curse. Even if it didn't really make the hostages squirm in pain all over, it still made their eyes water so much they couldn't see where they were or who was watching them - which was pretty much the only thing that Amycus even slightly worried about. That and the fact that Stan hadn't arrived tonight with the rest of the group and would probably be punished severely by the Dark Lord at an unknown time, but Amycus just tried not to think about that. It wouldn't do anyone any good, getting all distracted when there were mudbloods to be tortured.

As Beth looked each attacker in the eye, her strange and fevered idea began to fade. It did not seem that Severus was there at all. As this slowly faded, her initial and more realistic reaction of fear for her own life began to reemerge. Elizabeth looked all around her at the fighting she had previously been oblivious to, and saw the devastation for the first time. People she knew had been hurt, and she herself had done nothing about it. This was enough to make the girl look guilty. If only there was a way to let Dumbledore know what was happening. Surely, he would not run away from students in danger like the adults were were innocently shopping when the death eaters first arrived. Thinking quickly, she looked around her, trying to think how a person could contact the school from here. It was not as if the school had a phone that she knew of, although a muggle line for muggle parents seemed like the right thing to do, for not everyone had access to owls, port-keys, and such.

"Gotta get Professor Dumbledore," her mind said, her new agenda seizing her mind. It was rather interesting that she found herself going in perfect order according to the first loyalty list she had drafted out for herself as she tried to figure out which direction she was headed in. Naturally, love came first, followed by friendship and yet the war itself seemed to register little with the girl for it always seemed less real than all that she was feeling day to day inside the little school. Her eyes rested on the post office and Beth got an idea. She ran in, paying for the fastest owl she could get and scribbled out a note.

To Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster

Professor,

Death eaters are attacking students in Hogsmeade, please come help immediately. We are alone and outmatched.

Beth sent off the letter, not even realizing she had neglected to sign the thing. She then noticed the birds floating around her, wondering who had cast the spell and how long ago for her not to have even noticed them. hey seemed to be in a weakened state, so either it was some time ago, or the caster had been injured since. Beth made a mental note to look up that spell once she had gotten back to the school safely, then turned, trying to urge the shop keepers to come out and help them. They, however, pretended as if they could not even hear her, once the owl was paid for and sent off.

Finally, in a fit of frustration, Beth went back outside, turning to the sound of her name being spoken. As she heard the command, her eyes slid out of focus. She fell into the hex easily, watching the unaffected birds floating around her still, flying as if in a dream of their own as she slid deeper and deeper into herself. A strange sort of bliss fell over the girl, a simple and happy feeling as if she had nothing to care for in the world. Unseen by her, the girl's dark blue eyes clouded over as the girl fell into the hex, unaware that she was going to deeply regret everything she was about to be made to do.

((this is fine, I actually thought this would happen sooner, when I made the silly girl look into your eyes looking for Severus/Per request, Dumbledore will be joining in soon. Lily feel free to post that part in your next post))

A lot seemed to happen at once, and it was just too much physically for the delicately built seventeen-year-old girl. One person who had been on the receiving end of a spell knocked an arm against Jeanette full in the face hard, causing her to accidentally bite the inside of her mouth and making her nose start to bleed slightly. Spitting out some of the blood her teeth brought forth on the inside of her cheek, Jeanette attempted another Stunner of her own, but she was rendered incapable of articulating that spell, or much else, correctly. Furthermore, she had never fully mastered the use of nonverbal magic. Ironically enough, her Defense Professor last year had been very verbal in telling them how to go nonverbal, and Jeanie was by no means an auditory learner. Much to her frustration, she had yet to find a book that did a good job explaining, with the result that her Defense average had seen a substantial drop in points.

Needless to say, she was unable to do much now, and it did not help that the aftereffects of the Cruciatus, which included aches and dizziness, were still there and they returned to the forefront of her mind. Her head swam, and her legs felt like straw. [i]No... keep trying... stupefy!Stupefy! Think of them being knocked unconscous.. of Lord, I feel like I'M the one about to fall unconscious... no, Trotter, don't think that way or you will. Stay on your feet!"

It was already too late, for her knees had given out and she sank to the ground on all fours. Permitting her legs to go flat, she heaved herself into a sitting position, but her head was lolling even as she fought against her physical limits to see what the Death Eaters were doing. She was vaguely aware that there were two not far from herself conversing behind what must be a protective shield- no spell seemed capable of hitting them.

Then, one of them pointed a wand her way. Sensing danger, she shakily raised her own wand. "Protego!" Nothing happened, except for her wand falling to the ground useless as the Death Eater's spell hit her.

Jeanie felt a sensation as though the ground had evaporated.

It was just too much. Everything went black.
~~~~~~~
What seemed like eons later, she grew just barely conscious- all she knew was her head was pounding harshly and she could not move a muscle, as she discovered when she attempted to shift first her arm, then her legs. Her eyelids felt too heavy to lift, and she did not wish to chance opening them anyhow- the results might make her pass out completely again. She would have to resort to taking in as much as possible by ear, challenging though that would be The noises she did discern did not bode well.
i ain't gonna be
JUST A FACE IN THE CROWD
A set of light pink lips curved with satisfaction when Lily saw her spell hit. Once Antonin was on the ground, she made the foolish mistake of glancing at the other Death Eaters, trying to gage their reactions and her own spells. A second later, she was flipped upside down, her entire body spinning one hundred and eighty degrees. At least she had enough sense to hang onto her wand for dear life. Red hair scraped the surface of the ground, and while Lily had never been levicorpus’d before she was more irritated then scared. One hand held her shirt against her, trying to avoid the natural law of gravity and thanking god she wasn’t in a skirt. The other clutched her wand. Her eyes were blinking rapidly as she thought of her next spell and directed it at the man who she had hit before. ”Confundus!” It was poorly placed, as Lily was flipped upside down with questionable aim, but she hoped it hit and one of her peers would flip her right side up.
Unfortunately for Lily, they were having problems of their own. She watched Amelia dance by, thanking whoever existed in the stars that Jeanie was there to help her. Lily could fend her own even upside down, but some maternal instinct towards a younger student had kicked in long ago. Her eyes lingered briefly on Amelia and Jeanie, then returned to the Death Eater who appeared to be the problem. They were like lambs headed to the slaughter… Lily hadn’t even begun a session with the Order of the Phoenix and she was confident neither Amelia or Jeanie were on the roster unless they had joined late. She knew enough spells to get her by, but with her anxiety over the others and the panic driven crowd rushing around the square, any spells she did would have a decent chance of missing. Where were the professors, the adults?
She was just about to call for Jeanie’s assistance regarding her state, but the girl had already been hexed by a Death Eater. The attacks were endless, and to their credit, seamless. The damages caused by a single man would certainly outrank those done by children. There! She saw a flash of Beth’s blonde hair, and redirected her attention. ”Beth, help m-“ Her voice cut off, and she stared at the girl. Either Beth was more batty then Lily had realized, or she had just been hit by something. Her heart started to burst, wondering if this was the end of the line. She shot another spell at the Death Eaters, using Stupefy again on the man who had his wand pointed at Beth.
Lily had never been a pessimist, and she was all for rooting for the underdog, but the more she watched the world around her the more nervous she became. James was in here somewhere, possibly being tortured, maybe even dead. Her friends could be lying open eyed in some street corner, and she was still bloody upside down. She resisted the urge to scream in frustration, but thankfully any such urge vanished the moment she saw a flash of blinding silver light. There, hovering above the Death Eaters heads, was a silver phoenix. It swooped in circles, and Lily watched it gratefully. Dumbledore was behind that phoenix.
They were saved.
Outwardly it seemed like an ordinary day. There was a strange sort of tension underneath, however, that seemed almost palpable. There was no way to explain this feeling, except that terrible cliched, "bad feeling" that people got or would say that they would get before something dreadfully wrong happened. It was this feeling that had Albus hunting every avenue of news, looking for something which might be happening at this very moment.
Dumbledore was walking towards the main entrance when a girl named Nina came in, looking rather distraught and carrying what looked like bottles of fire-whiskey. Not even thinking of the drink, the headmaster had the mind to approach the girl to make sure she was alright, when he was stopped by a very persistent owl, who stopped the professor in his tracks by batting at the man about the head with its wings. "Okay," he said calmly as he untied the note from the bird's leg. "You have my attention what is it?" He then read with a stunned moment of silence.
To Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster
Professor,
Death eaters are attacking students in Hogsmeade, please come help immediately. We are alone and outmatched.
Immediately, Albus sent a patronus to the street, hoping someone would know that the silver phoenix meant he was on his way. There was no way of knowing who was there, but from the sounds of the letter, they were all students on one end of the fighting. Order members could be sent for if needed, but first he would get there and assess the severity of the attack. Perhaps his presence alone might be enough to deter the attack if said attack was small enough. Rushing to the edge of the forest. Albus found himself focusing on where his patronus had settled, which should be right over the scene of the attack and disapperated.
A moment later, Dumbledore was standing at the edge of the fighting as he quickly surveyed what was happening all around him. It was a side of Albus few had ever seen, one he had not even shown to those suspected death eaters with whom he had talked with not too long ago. Now his students were being attacked and the self proclaimed "death eaters" had crossed the line. The time of negotiations had now ended, and the fighting had begun. Swiftly, he aimed his wand at the nearest death eater and threw a repelling charm, throwing the masked figure away from the student he or she was attacking. blue eyes, usually so friendly and warm, were now radiating a cold fury. "I will not tolerate any attack on my students, consider that your one and only warning," Albus said coolly, hoping that it would help both students and the unlucky death eaters know that he had arrived.
Finally collapsing to the ground, Amelia sighed, she had complete control over her limbs again thanks to Jeanie. After rubbing some life back into her now stiff legs, she stood up and surveyed the ongoing battle. It baffled her as to why these Death Eaters would attack children, so near their school and so near Dumbledore. She knew that this would not bode well for them as they must have had a very important reason for taking such a considerable risk. She dodged several curses which had been hurled her way by faceless Death Eaters and Millie had to dive into the mud to avoid one particularly nasty crucio curse which had been aimed just at where her face had been moments before.
It was only when she was back on her feet and had wiped the mud away from her eyes that she saw Jeanie being carried away by a masked man, he was shorter than the rest, but still as imposing. Millie screamed in protest and ran through the crowd to try and protect Jeanie, she had already watched Lachie be taken and she wasn't prepared to allow Jeanie to go as well. She threw hex after hex at the Death Eater, but each rebounded effortlessly against the intensely powerful shield cast around him. Just as the door of the Hogs Head was slammed in her face, Amelia resulted to beating her fists against the hard wood, screaming for the Death Eaters to let her friends go. Her eyes began to fill with tears, her worst fears were being realised, everyone she was close to was now either taken or being attacked. As she heard more screaming, Millie turned back to the crowd and saw Lily upside down, but still fighting on bravely. Crossing the commotion quickly, Amelia jabbed her wand fiercely at Lily's feet, borrowing Jeanie's spell, "Finite Incantantem!" Hopefully she would have cast it accurately enough to return Lily to the ground.
Just as she was reaching to help Lily, Amelia turned as she heard a familiar voice, but a voice normally so cool and calm was filled with hate and fire. She watched as Dumbledore easily vanquished a Death Eater and she allowed herself to relax for a moment, for now he was here, they were as safe as they were tucked up warmly in their towers. However, just because Dumbledore had arrived, it didn't stop the Death Eaters trying their hand at getting some last minute casualties, Millie sent several stunners flying in an attempt to incapacitate enough masked men for Dumbledore to make them really sorry. The students of Hogwarts were each like his own children, and no-one threatened his children, especially not in his own house. Amelia tried to look to Dumbledore for some miraculous burst of bravery and strength, to help her contend with the remaining Death Eaters, or to help her to return her friends, but she received no such burst. She had used every store of energy she had and now all she wanted to do was sleep.
James had spotted someone hanging in midair and squinting his eyes through his glasses he managed to realize it was Lily. Fear bubbled inside of him, if she was hurt he didn’t know what he would do. A moment later and She wasn’t there, he seemed to freeze where he was.
He had fought a couple more Death Eaters off of younger students. The whole time, keeping his eyes open for someone else who would need help while trying to find Lily at the same time. He didn’t know Dumbledore was now there, he had seen a bright silver flash of light but didn’t focus on it making him miss Dumbledore’s patronus, he only knew he had to do what he could to help in any way possible. It was at this point where some Hogwarts student missed a Death Eater that was in front of James. He hadn’t helped that particular pair because it looked like the other student was handling themselves well, that was until he felt the cut across his arm. Blood began coming out and that was when he finally managed to function once more.
It stung, that was an understatement but it was nothing serious. It was almost as bad as when Snivellus has slashed his cheek back in fifth year. He was already forcing his way in the direction of where he had last seen Lily. At some point when he was panicking and a Death Eater stood with his back to him James shoved him out of the way because of lack of room while stunning him afterwards and not bothering to watch the large man fall to the ground. “Lily!” He yelled out in his moment of desperation.
At that moment he finally reached his destination, one glance and he knew she was alright. She was alive, he didn’t know if she was hurt. Another glance and he noticed one of his Team members, Amelia. His Beater looked far worse than Lily did. He was still a distance away from them, Dumbledore still not in his line of vision. He saw Death Eaters, all of them doing a lot of damage. He was focused on figuring out which one was the one that had gone after Lily. His wand was out and steady, and aimed in the direction of one who had had his wand pointed at what looked like the Ravenclaw girl who had greatly bothered him a while back while he was fighting in the bathroom with Malfoy. Throwing a reducto by his feet, he heard the loud blast. If he was lucky, hopefully it had affected him and not someone fighting on the same side he was.
Never was and never will be
Have you no shame? Don't you see me?
You know you've got everybody fooled
Antonin had been looking directly at Beth, having taken a few steps forward when there was a bright flash of silver. His head at this turned toward the source of this and his eyes widened slightly with what he saw. Not that far from were he and Beth stood Albus Dumbledore, raging in anger to see his precious students getting hurt. Dolohov’s eyes flashed with a light of excitement and a grin was hidden by his mask at the sight of the man so feared showing so much weakness. Dumbledore could be a great wizard all he wanted, but in the end he was just another foolish man that allowed weak emotions like this to led his path.
The only thing that could make this night better would be to finally kill the man, for his master to show up and finally end this foolish battle. But he knew he shouldn’t get his hopes so up, just knowing that they were bringing o much anger to the usually calmed man was enough to make them sure that their mission had been a success, his master would be truly proud of their well done work. Antonin’s fingers wrapped around his wand as he returned to Elizabeth, another grin appearing on his lips. Finally he knew what to do, oh this would be fun alright. Would the great Albus Dumbledore would be willing to attack one of his dear old students? They were just about to find just that, emotions were such very interesting things.
“Attack Albus Dumbledore.” With a smirk Antonin stepped side to allow the Imperiod’ Ravenclaw to pass and fulfill her mission it was at this moment that something strange and unexpected happened. Antonin heard the blast on his feet as the ground was blasted by what appeared to be the reduction spell, cursing out loud he stepped away fast enough to avoid falling down or receiving more damage. He had completely forgotten about the students still fighting out there, his head turned sharply toward who he was sure the spell had come from. His eyes finally felt to what appeared to be a boy, he wasn’t sure if he had seen him before but the messy hair seemed oddly familiar.
Antonin regained his composure quickly, looking back at Beth to see if his spell was still working, by the looks of it and if he wasn’t mistake it would look that it wasn’t affected at all by the blast. Happy with the results his attention returned to the Gryffindor boy that had launched a spell at him. Antonin didn’t bother to apparate besides the boy this time, their distance wasn’t that bad and with a quick swing of his wand a flash of fire erupted from it’s tip igniting some of the ground before the boy. He was looking to get his attention, he was going to have lots of fun causing this one pain. He had just remember why he seemed oddly familiar, this was no other than James Potter, one of those purebloods out there whom dared to betray their ideals.
A filthy little Gryffindor that was surely on Dumbledore’s side, but he would learn hopefully today the mistake of his foolish ways. “Foolishness is the only thing that tend to lead Gryffindor this days, trying to take out a wizard that has twice the knowledge that you do. Are you trying to get revenge for what I did to the red haired mudblood, I have heard that you have some very interesting feelings for her.” Antonin smirked, he loved to get under his enemies skin and it was so easy to heat up this Hogwarts students. You just needed to know some of their little weakness and it was easy just like that.
"Attack Albus Dumbledore."
The command rang through Elizabeth's head, wiping every worry from the girl's mind. Something told Beth that she should be worried over such an idea, but the thought was nearly impossible to hold onto. It was like watching a strange little black bubble floating through what felt otherwise to be a perfectly blissful place to be. Outside of this world was pain, and she could not imagine anyone being willing or able to fight out of the bliss and into the pain or real life. Sadly, it would be something she would have to do eventually anyway and perhaps to be worse off for what she was about to do. "Attack Albus Dumbledore," the girl repeated, a bit surprised at this command although this feeling also slipped from her as easily as the bad feeling did a moment ago.
A momentary shock made her nearly topple over, but Beth hardly felt it through the daze she was in. "Attack Dumbledore," she said again, allowing the message given to her to resurface. It was as if this was the only reason she was there, even though the girl could not understand why she wanted to do this. The girl seemed slow to move as she drew her wand, half of her trying to fight this odd decree even though she could not think of the reason why she opposed it. The headmaster was right behind her. Somehow, it was if she could feel him there, a bright presence in the midst of all the fighting.
She turned to face the man and suddenly remembered. She liked Dumbledore, that was why she did not want to do this. "I'm sorry Professor Dumbledore," Beth said as her wand pointed towards him. "I have to attack you, nothing personal." She threw a spell at him and then a second and a third, getting them out before she could stop herself. Unaware of the tears now flowing down her face, half obstructing her vision, Beth drew closer, not aware or caring about the idea that he could attack back and that if Dumbledore chose to do, Elizabeth would have no chance whatsoever. Her perfect world was being filled with pain now and Beth continued fighting as if this itself would help stem back the tide of black and terrible pain which threatened to overcome her. It felt as if she was drowning and there was nothing to be done to save her now.
He was displeased to soon realize his spell hadn’t done any damage to the intended person. He’d been hoping it would work. The blast had created a decent sized crater into the ground but still the Death Eater had managed to not fall in. He growled in frustration, His aim was impeccable but its affect depended on his opponents’ agility, this one was obviously one of those difficult ones.
He’d glanced over at Lily to make sure she hadn’t been affected by his spell, at that moment he saw a flash of fire appear before him. It caught his attention in an instant; he could feel the heat radiating from the fire. With a quick swooping swish of his wand, dirt rose in a small wave yet big enough to douse the fire. The last thing he needed was to worry about some fire getting out of control, only causing more havoc and confusion and probably more damage.
He glared across at the Death Eater who he had now engaged into what was quickly looking like it would turn into a duel. He was a seventh year, he’d had some amount of practice when it came to dueling and he knew quite a few good spells and jinxes. He was arrogant as well; He felt he could take on this Death Eater. Any Death Eater at that, if he was adamant in what he wanted then it would eventually be. He neglected to think about his opponent being an adult and a death eater; there would be no mercy for his behalf.
What he hadn’t been expecting was for the Death Eater to address him in any other way than just curses. No, he had spoken to James. And quite frankly, James was shocked. How did this sad excuse for a man, for he attacked children, know about James’ personal life? His family was against Voldemort, James more openly against him than his old parents. The bloody spies inside of Hogwarts, those idiots who were branded and were still allowed to walk free, they were the ones who had probably revealed such things to Death Eaters. Fury spread through him in a rapid pace, It was too close. Far too close for comfort, The people he most cared about were in danger if information could be so easily gathered about those who opposed Voldemort and his disgusting idea.
“Foolishness would be not to try.” James replied with a dignity fit for a King. “Not only for her. But for every person you’ve managed to hurt up to now.” James replied coldly. He fought to control his temper, because once that flared He would lose control and be that much easier to defeat in his recklessness. The fact that he had called Lily a mudblood caused his thoughts to yell at him to screw control and just try to finish this man now.
The death eater had gotten under his skin. It hadn’t been too difficult for him either; the shock about the attack, His fear of Lily and others being hurt, the fact that this man knew things about him. His wand was gripped tightly and steadily in his hand. He felt that time had been wasted speaking to him if only a few words. In what looked like jabbing motion James sent a nonverbal jinx in the direction of the Death Eater that would cause him if cast correctly to feel as if he were on fire for a moment. It was a bit cruel, but had no lasting effect except for the memory. He was going to teach this sad excuse for a man a lesson, he was not going to let this one escape to do even more damage. As long as everyone against voldemort continued fighting, they could put up some kind of front to keep them from entering Hogwarts and doing to it what they had done to the small village.
So many things happened while Lionel ran toward the familiar blonde haired girl. He saw one girl being flung into the hair, while some other girl, a girl that looked oddly familiar was hit by a spell by one of the masked Death Eaters and taken somewhere he didn’t know where, while another girl chased after them. Even while all that happened he remained focused on the blonde and tried to keep his spell at work even though he could feel himself grow weaker and himself loosing power with each step he took toward Elizabeth. Just then he saw her run in somewhere and then come out to meet one of the Death Eaters face to face and watched in horror as his conjured birds failed him before his eyes as he fell to the floor weakened by the effort and the Death Eater cast one or another spell at her.
Everything went dark for a few moments and when he opened his eyes again he was looking up toward the sky and there above him was what he could only think could be a corporeal patronus in the shape of a Phoenix. They had yet to study patronuses yet, since it was something that one only did in your N.E.W.T year, but Lionel knew something about it because while he was looking up something for one of his Defence Against the Dark Art’s lessons he had stumbled upon a book in the library. Lionel couldn’t see any of the children he knew being able to produce one yet, and the only reason being that if they had certainly they would have shouted from the roof tops that they could, so he came to the conclusion that there had to know be a professor or sorts in their midst.
That seemed to give him some sort of will and for the second time in that day Lionel managed to get to his feet when he thought that he would not be able to. Looking around his eyes fell upon the sight of Elizabeth Finch casting curses at Hogwarts’ beloved Headmaster. With no thought and no plan in mind he ran toward them and came to stand directly between the Headmaster, who he had never really met beyond the normal curt nod in the hallways and Elizabeth Finch, the weird Ravenclaw he felt a strange obligation to save. He spread his arms in an attempt to protect the Headmaster, though in the back of his mind he knew that it wouldn’t really do any good should she cast a spell at him and he would probably do better with a wand pointed at her, but he didn’t grow up with magic and it was natural for him to think that this was how he should protect a person or prevent something.
“Elizabeth what are you doing,” Lionel questioned in a pleading voice as the blood from the wound on his forehead trickled down his face once more. “You don’t want to do this. This isn’t you.” He didn’t know what he was saying. He hardly knew the girl apart from that odd encounter they had had, but he hoped that he was right in his assumption of her. She certainly hadn’t seemed to want to hurt anybody during their encounter, especially him. While he kept his position Lionel looked toward the Death Eater that he was sure had done something to Elizabeth to force her to act this way. He seemed to be busy with someone who looked a lot like James Potter at the moment.
